Drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs have proven their effectiveness time and time again. One popular option for drug and alcohol rehabilitation is an inpatient program—here is a list of terms commonly associated with this program:
Detoxification
Once you move into an inpatient program for drug or alcohol rehabilitation, you will initially undergo detoxification. This process is designed to help you deal with withdrawal symptoms and can last anywhere from three to fourteen days, depending on the severity of the addiction. Throughout detoxification, you may or may not receive substance-deterrent medications such as Antabuse.
Group Therapy
As you work toward independence from drugs and alcohol, you may be pleased to learn that you will receive help from others every step of the way. Group therapy sessions allow you to learn about others who share a common history and goal—you may be surprised at how familiar some of the stories sound.
Twelve-Step Program
This religious method of understanding and dealing with the personal issues underlying substance abuse has helped many successfully complete rehabilitation treatments.Steps include recognizing and admitting that you have a problem, putting trust in a higher power, and asking forgiveness of those you have wronged.
Relapse Prevention
After the treatment process has ended, clients may turn back to substance abuse once again—this is known as a relapse. In order to completely treat substance abuse, relapse prevention must be proactively practiced.
If you feel that you or a loved one is in need of a drug or alcohol rehabilitation program, then Astoria Pointe is here to help. In addition to alcohol and drug rehab, we also offer treatment programs for love and sex addiction. Call (503) 298-4393 to learn more.

Recovering from any sort of addiction requires plenty of time and determination. After you enroll in a drug or alcohol rehabilitation program, you must learn how to live in a sober environment, because when you leave, it will be time to face the real world. Here are a few reasons why you should look into a structured sober living environment immediately following rehabilitation:
A Sense of Community
Overcoming addiction alone is virtually impossible—you need a supportive community to help during the recovery process. This need doesn’t lessen after you graduate from a rehabilitation program—you can truly benefit from staying around others who are in the same position you are in.
Sober living houses group together individuals who wish to stay sober. By sharing living space with those who have a similar goal, you will be able to rely on a helpful and supportive community.
Getting Back On Track
Once you break free from your addiction, you will need to immerse yourself in school, work, or other day-to-day activities. At a sober living house, you will be asked to either find a job or enroll in classes. This is because, like any shared living situation, you will be responsible for splitting bills and helping around the house.
Mitigating Stress
Living by yourself is certainly stressful—however, if you choose to live in a structured sober environment, then you won’t have to deal with quite as many tasks or chores as you would alone. A low-stress living situation is definitely ideal for those who want to stay sober.
